How to Make Speculaas Spice Mix
The directions of this spice mix (an any other for that matter) cannot be more simple. Measure the individual spices, mix them together and store it in an airtight container.
Tips For a Good and Long Lasting Speculaas Spice Mix
- Check the freshness of your ground spices before you start mixing them. Look at the expiration dates, and use you nose in order to determine whether they are still potent. If you don’t detect any aroma, adding that spice to your mix won’t do you any good.
- Make you Speculaas Spice Mix last by pouring the mixture in an airtight container. There are multiple options available.
- Make the right amount. Fresh spices typically last 1-2 years (provided that they are stored in an airtight container). So if you make your speculaas spice mix from freshly bought spices with a long shelf life you’ll have that same time-frame of 1-2 years. But you need to ask yourself if you will use up all the spice jars that you bought within those 1-2 years, not only the speculaas spice mix itself. Since mixing up spices is so easy, I would recommend to make small quantities at a time. This way you may be able to postpone buying some of the spices, you may not use frequently otherwise.
- Buy a cute jar, make your own label and you’ll have a nice gift for the holidays.
