Cherry Muffins with Streusel Topping

Cherry muffins make for an absolutely delightful breakfast choice. The soft muffin texture, the fruity tang of cherries and the cinnamon crunch of the streusel, make these muffins just right for pairing with a cup of coffee or tea.

Cherry Muffins with Streusel Topping

These muffins are made with fresh cherries and yogurt, but can be made with frozen cherries as well, if you think about making these outside the cherry season. The streusel topping is optional, you can not add any topping or use just a sprinkle of coarse sugar.

  • Egg
  • Yogurt

How to Make Cherry Muffins with Streusel Topping

Step 1 – Make the streusel by mixing melted butter, flour, sugar and cinnamon until you have fine crumbs. Place the bowl in the fridge until you need it.

Step 2 – Whisk melted butter, sugar, egg, yogurt and vanilla extract until well combined.

Step 3 – Mixture all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt and add this to the butter-sugar mixture and whisk until combined. Place the bowl in the fridge.

Step 4 – Heat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Wash, dry, pit and chop the cherries.

Fold the cherries into the batter.

Step 5 – Scoop the muffin batter into the muffin pan, lined with 6 muffin liners.

Step 6 – Sprinkle the streusel over the muffins and place the muffin pan in the oven.

Step 7 – Bake the cherry muffins for 25-30 minutes. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out dry.

Cool the muffins in the pan for about 5 minutes and then cool the further on a rack.
