The same addictive flavor, but these homemade cheez-its are fresher than fresh and you can adjust them just the way you like. Change the type of cheese or spices and these will be your cheez-its.
Transfer cheese, flour, turmeric and salt to the bowl of a food processor. Blend until combined.
Add the butter that you cut in smaller pieces first.
Add water and pulse until the dough comes together.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll out to a thin rectangle (about 1/16″).
Use a pastry cutter and cut the dough into 1-inch squares. You can use either side of the pastry cutter, but the one with the beveled wheel will create the fluted edges on the cheez-its.
Transfer the squares to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and use a skewer or chopstick to poke holes in the middle of the cheeze-it.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes. (NOTE 1)
Allow to cool.
Notes
My advice is to check at 15 minutes and then add 1 minute increments in cooking time until you reach the correct color/doneness. A minute too long can mean that you burn the cheese crackers.
